Partnership with the ITU

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is the United Nations specialised agency for information and communication technologies. Tanzania works with the ITU on spectrum and standards, digital inclusion, cybersecurity capacity, WSIS follow-up and emerging technology governance — ensuring national programmes stay aligned with global best practice while reflecting local priorities.

Areas of engagement

Connectivity & standards

Collaboration on telecommunications policy, spectrum management and technical standards that keep networks interoperable, secure and ready for next-generation services.

Capacity & diplomacy

High-level meetings, study groups and fellowships help Tanzanian experts contribute to — and learn from — global ICT governance, including AI and virtual-worlds initiatives.

Knowledge & stocktaking

Through WSIS stocktaking and related platforms, Tanzania documents ICT-for-development projects and exchanges lessons with peer administrations worldwide.

ITU cooperation and JamiiStack

ITU engagement reinforces the policy and skills environment that JamiiStack needs to scale: trusted networks, secure services, inclusive access and internationally recognisable DPI practices. Lessons from Geneva and regional ITU activities feed back into domestic implementation — from e-government AI sessions to digital-skills programmes.
