Global DPI Summit

Tanzania’s place in the global conversation on digital identity, payments and data exchange — and how JamiiStack delivers DPI for citizens and the economy.

Connected digital public infrastructure

About the Global DPI Summit

The Global Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) Summit convenes governments, technologists and development partners to share how shared digital rails — identity, payments and data exchange — can expand inclusion and economic opportunity. First elevated under India’s G20 Digital Economy agenda, the Summit remains a key venue for countries to demonstrate national stacks and learn from peers.

Tanzania’s DPI story

Tanzania’s Permanent Secretary for Communication and Information Technology has been among the Summit’s invited voices, presenting the country’s technology stack that underpins the ten-year Digital Economy Framework launched by H.E. President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan. JamiiStack is the national expression of that DPI vision — designed in Tanzania, for Tanzania and Africa.

Foundational DPI building blocks

Digital identity

Jamii Namba provides a unique digital identifier for citizens, supporting secure access to government, finance and social services, with registration already covering over 25 million people and expansion underway for children.

Digital payments

Jamii Malipo / Jamii Pay and related rails such as interoperable instant payments help move government and commercial transactions toward a cashless, mobile-money-first economy.

Data exchange

Jamii X-Change (Jamii Data Shirikishi) enables consented interoperability across public and private systems — reducing silos and unlocking end-to-end digital journeys.

Enablers behind the stack

  • Personal Data Protection Act, 2022 — privacy and lawful processing across public and private institutions.
  • National Cybersecurity Strategy — safeguarding critical digital infrastructure.
  • Digital Economy Strategic Framework, 2024 — the North Star for implementers and partners.
  • Public–private coordination through national digital transformation structures, the Bank of Tanzania, ICTC and ecosystem partners.
