AI for Good with Tanzania

AI for Good is the ITU’s global platform for advancing artificial intelligence that benefits people and the planet. Tanzania engages in these dialogues to ensure emerging technologies support inclusive growth, public-service delivery, data sovereignty and jobs — not technology for its own sake. National work on an Artificial Intelligence Strategy, standards and institutional arrangements complements this international engagement.

National priorities

People-centred governance

At ITU AI governance meetings, Tanzania has stressed that global norms must translate into practical benefits for citizens at home — with strong roles for women and youth in technology leadership.

Public service & economy

Early AI and data-system use cases support e-government efficiency, trade facilitation and agriculture, aligning with JamiiStack’s ambition for smarter, interoperable services.

Skills & readiness

Participation in AI for Good Labs and related roundtables focuses on AI readiness, skills pathways and sandboxes where innovators can experiment safely with government APIs and data.

How JamiiStack enables responsible AI

  • Trusted identity and consent layers so AI-enabled services know who they serve — and respect privacy.
  • Interoperable data exchange (Jamii X-Change) that reduces fragmented datasets and improves quality of analytics.
  • Sandbox environments for testing AI solutions against open government APIs before nationwide scale-up.
  • Alignment with cybersecurity, personal data protection and emerging technology frameworks.
